Sheffield has a unique place in the history of many high temperature industries such as steel and glass making. The University has supported local industry in setting up departments to help educate and research in these areas. The Society of Glass Technology was formed from a need to add a further means of support and communication for the glass industry bridging the gap between industry and academia.
